The past few weeks have brought many good records into my hands. Here's a quick look.... AMP - astralmoonbeamprojections (Kranky) I think you either like AMP (Jens, me) or you don't (Andrew). Anyway, I think I like this even more than 'Sirenes'. It seems more consistent and powerful. The vocals are also a bit more upfront. Buy the vinyl, it is big and yummy with an extra sidelong track. A.M.P. - Heart & Soul Dissolves EP(Darla) I can't personally tell the difference between AMP & A.M.P. This is a nice abstract piece that continually builds on itself. It sounds esp. nice on the headphones. Definitely the equal of the first album, and much less ambient/formless than the smaller projects like "Perception" and "Heart & Soul Dissolve", with drumming and vocals on most tracks. Absolutely fabulous and smack dab exactly in the center of gravity of what I perceive pure/impure to be about. Any fan of Flying Saucer Attack's more ambient side, or anyone who wants to see what sh**g*z*r has evolved into six years post-"Loveless", needs to buy this album (or their first, "Sirenes".) Prior reviews of the vinyl version of Amp's "Astralmoonbeamprojections" say that the album's too long to fit on a CD and speculate that the very long final track "Celestialreturn" was deleted. However, I have the CD and it includes this track. The listing for the CD is: Onehopesinuncertainty Lightdripglow Transmigration Interlude Stellata Shiftime Polemic Celestialreturn [total time: 74:46] Can anyone with the vinyl confirm which track is missing? (And how good is it??) Date: Mon, 27 Oct 1997 16:31:24 -0500 From: Joshua Harmon Subject: Re: Which Amp album track deleted? There are actually two tracks on the DLP version of Astral... that aren't on the CD. These are "Shadowfall" (track 2 on vinyl) and "Alightfarout" (track 9--comes after "Polemic" on the end of side 3). The former track is fairly short and though nice seems more like incidental noise than anything else (some keyboard drone and ominous scraping sounds, a bit of feedback); the latter is much longer and quite nice--droney and drifting, still no vocals, not unlike the pieces on Perception. Vinyl includes "Shadowfall" (short track in between 1 and 2 on the CD) and "Alightfarout" (looks to be a little longer than "Polemic" which precedes it). Latter track is one of my favourites, by R. Amp / Gulatic / Mercer, presumably Dave Mercer a.k.a. Light. Strummed acoustic guitar and singing with a couple of noisier Slowdive-ish interludes. If I'm reading the credits right this track has Guy C, Gareth M (Mitchell, a.k.a. Philosopher's Stone?), Paul G and Dave M playing on it. "Shadowfall" has Roger W (Roger Waters, hitting hard times since leaving the Floyd?), and is basically a minute or two of echoing clanging, unlikely to change anyone's life.
