Bauhaus To Reunite For Two Shows While Tapes And Cameras Roll Matching the early moments of the Eagles reunion almost stroke for stroke, the semi-estranged members of the gothic supergroup Bauhaus have made the first move toward a formal reunion by announcing that they'll test the waters with two shows in Los Angeles on July 10th and 11th. The shows, tentatively set for the mid-sized Hollywood Palladium, will be filmed and recorded for possible release as a live album and film. In an interview with MTV News, Bauhaus' David J explained, "We did have a rehearsal to see if there was some magic still there about four weeks ago, and it definitely was there. It was really crackling with it, actually." J added that the added years have seasoned the sound such that the band is playing better than before and singer Peter Murphy is "richer than it's ever been." The shows coincide with the release of a Bauhaus retrospective double album, Crackle, due July 7th. While the energy for a Bauhaus reunion seems to be right, the various members are not waling away from their existing projects. Peter Murphy is reportedly working on his next solo album, while Love and Rockets have just released a new single, Resurrection Hex, from their own upcoming album, Lift, due later this year. Going to the NYC show in September and still cannot believe happening since definately had appeared they were going there separate ways - Love and Rockets have new single which I here is decent - in your face noise music not like last CD which ventured into electronica - Peter's solo release is due next year and hope it is not easy listening like last few releases - I did here the concert could be split into L&R songs and Peter songs. Be interesting if they did new material together but if they just stood on stage , I would be happy. Did not think I would ever get a chance to see these guys live though have seen each of them individually which was a thrill - having a goth music period has paid off..... Welll, I let you know that it was awesome. I went on Friday night. The first night at the Palladium (there was a short private show the night before). The band were tight and knew how to put on a good show. Some people from Beggars are staying in the office and they went to all 4 shows and mentioned that by Sunday night the band were awesome. Daniel Ash was all over the place, great stuff. They played all the important song, paying particular attention to the earliest stuff. Terror Couple Kill Colonel might have beenthe best song of the nigt. The surprise of the night was a Dead Can Dance cover, Severance. Pete Murphy started the show as just a face on a Monitor on the stage, I am sure someone else will have a more comprehensive review for you. (side note: you know that one person at every show that makes you embarrassed to be in the same audience with him? well, he was there.) they opened with "double dare", lots of fog and strobes, and a monitor showing peter murphy singing. nice. the lights came up on "in the flat field" and every ounce of hell broke loose. people were going absolutely fucking bonkers. my friend and i were nearly killed. somehow we got out of it without having to be carried out, like some did. i think they continued into "god in an alcove", but i was still recovering from the trauma of being in the middle of that obnoxious knot of stinky goths. so i can't say for sure. did i mention that i was nearly killed? i don't recall the exact order of the songs, but obviously some did - the complete setlists are out there somewhere on the bauhaus mailing list. if i find them i'll send them out, i suppose... not that you care. i know they played "hollow hills", "terror couple kill colonel", "sanity assassin", "boys" (he sang "things i fancy, just like... danny" as he was caressing daniel ash), "kick in the eye", and i think someone mentioned already that they played "severance" by dead can dance as well. the setlists were pretty much the same for both nights, with the exception of the encores - friday night they returned to play "ziggy stardust", "all we ever wanted was everything", and "bela lugosi's dead" (during which peter murphy twiddled the knobs on an analog delay) - saturday they played "the passion of lovers" in lieu of "everything". oh yeah... saturday night daniel ash played the first few notes of "happy birthday" for peter murphy. how sweet. and yes... amidst the expected array of bauhaus, the cure, and siouxsie t-shirts was a bangles t-shirt. by no means was i kidding. the shows were great... peter murphy is quite the performer. Last Friday, following the first of two sold-out performances at Chicago's Riviera Theater, Bauhaus spent six hours in a Windy City studio recording two songs with engineer Chris Shepard Smashing Pumpkins, Wilco, Liz Phair). There, the group hashed out a cover of Dead Can Dance's "Severance," and began work on a new, as-yet-untitled song. [snip] The recording experience is likely to continue, as the band is considering booking studio time in Atlanta come mid-September... Shepard believes Bauhaus may book more studio time following the European leg of their world tour...in order to record their first full-length studio album in fifteen years...Meanwhile, Bauhaus will record and videotape their two shows at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom on Sept. 9 and 10, for an upcoming live album and possible live video, according to band manager Charlie Hewitt.
