Date: Sat, 4 Apr 1998 19:01:24 -0800 From: shane Subject: Breeders News >From the "news" section of the Unofficial Breeders Web Page: http://www.i1.net/~noaloha/breeders.htm May 1997: Kelley Deal and Josephine Wiggs have officially quit the band. In an interview, Kim said jokingly, "Everything is cool, and I think they're great gals, but did they have to fuckin' take two years to fuckin' quit?" Everything IS cool. Kim recruited Amps' members, Nate Farley and Luis Lerma (actually they just changed names from The Amps to The Breeders), to fill their spots, and the Breeders are rockin' harder than ever! Kelley and Josephine are currently pursuing solo careers with their bands, The Kelley Deal 6000 (http://www.kelleydeal.com) and The Josephine Wiggs Experience (http://www.grandroyal.com). June 14, 1997: The Breeders next album will be a live album. It's is scheduled to be released sometime around mid-August. Rumor has it that the show was recorded in Los Angeles or San Diego on their spring '97 tour. More details as they become available. June 25, 1997: Kim will be singing guest vocals on the next Tijuana No (http://retila.com/tjno.html) album. Tijuana No is a mexican band. The album's music is recorded and now they'll start recording all the vocals. Here's how it happened: "Kim was in the same recording studio in L.A. where they are recording and she was working on a LIVE Breeders album. They invited Kim to one of their shows and she went and liked it very much so they invited her to do a duo and she accepted. The song's name is EL PIMP (THE PIMP) and the record will be out sometime this year on the BMG-RCA (U.S.A) label." -- Carlos Lopez July 25, 1997: Bad News: Drummer, Jim Macpherson, has left the Breeders to spend more time with his family. Tyler Trent, the drummer from Braniac (http://www.southern.com/southern/band/BRAIC/) will replace him. The Hawaii tour has also been cancelled, or at least postponed for now. Jim is still playing with Real Lulu (http://www.bigbeef.com/lulubeef.htm) occasionally. Good News: The Breeders will be playing in Dayton on August 10, at Gilly's as part of the Tim Taylor Memorial Fund. Mink is also scheduled to play. Thanks Luis! August 1997: Carrie Bradley has started a new band, 100 Watt Smile, in San Francisco. However, she has not given up playing part time in the Breeders. Her band has released its first album, 100 Watt Smile. For more info, check out the 100 Watt Smile Homepage (http://www.i1.net/~noaloha/100watt.htm), or write to: 100 Watt Smile; 636 Precita Ave; San Francisco, CA 94110 October 1997 The Breeders are scheduled to begin recording a third album in late October and November, with a possible release sometime in Spring 1998. The album will be co-produced by Deal and Mark Freegard, who also produced Last Splash. It is unkown what musicians will appear on the ablum. Of the 15 songs Deal has written, two that have been demoed and may end up on the still-untitled CD are "Forced to Drive" (http://www.vividzine.com/stuff/breeders.wav) and "Climbing the Sun." Both have just been released on a special fan club seven-inch that Deal sent out as a gift to members who've supported the band over the years. For more information, read this article (Thanks Ed!). There is still no word on what happened to the live album that was scheduled to come out in August '97. October 2, 1997 For those of you who are subscribed to The Breeders Digest: a new 7" record has been released to members. It includes two new demo songs, "Climbing the Sun" and "Forced to Drive" (aka "Yo"). The third issue of the Digest should supposedly be out soon. November 25, 1997 Jim Macpherson is now drumming for Guided By Voices (http://www.gbv.com). For more info, go here: http://www.addict.com/MNOTW/lofi/971125/971125_1978.shtml December 27, 1997 The January issue of Alternative Press lists the next Breeders album, untitled as of yet, as being one of the 25 most anticipated albums of 1998. There's a short interview with Kim, indicating that the album should be out in May, and should include the songs "Swingers", "Forced to Drive", "Climbing the Sun", and an instrumental similar to "Flipside" and "Tony's Theme" (Pixies). The album is being recorded at New York's Magic Shop and Sear Sound. The article says the Breeders will tour in 1998, and "gig around" Ohio.
