As per 2/6/98 issue of Entertainment Weekly, as part of an article on Sundance
Film Festival, the Paul Schrader film, Affliction, includes "a haunting use of
harmonic overtones from composer Michael Brook".  The film stars Nick Nolte
and is based on a novel by Russel Banks, who wrote Sweet Hereafter. One
comment "it's dark as hell" about a man in midlife crisis, afflicted  by the
same malaise of drink as his father, James Coburn.
