Well, I was there last week, and can confirm that this is 100% true. All the M&K CDs there have a sticker on them saying something like "Features Faye Wong on 'Serpentskirt'", and it really is a different version from at least the US release. It's got a completely different vocal track with Faye singing most of the vocals, backed by Liz. Other than the sticker, it would probably be hard to tell this version of the CD from any other. The catalog number may be different so here it is: 7314 5323182 5. Also, it may not even be available outside of Hong Kong, so good luck searching for a copy. I was an idiot: I should have brought back a load of CDs. Speaking of Faye Wong, she collaborated with the Cocteaus on HER new album. I heard it in the CD store when I was buying my M&K. At first I didn't know who it was, but then I decided 'you know, I bet that's Faye Wong,' so I asked the guy at the counter and he told me, 'it's this Cantonese singer you've probably never heard of...' 'Faye Wong?,' I said, and he said yes and seemed surprised! He pointed out where it was located in the racks, and sure enough it had a sticker on the front listing her name along with the Cocteau Twins. Two of the ten songs were recorded with the Cocteaus, and the whole thing is absolutely wonderful! All the songs are quite Cocteau Twins-y overall, but somewhat more poppy, toward the Sundays side of things with a bit of Sarah-indiepop added. I'm sure anyone who likes the Cocteaus would like this album. Which brings me to my second bout of idiocy: I only brought back two copies! (They're already taken). What was I thinking? Maybe Dewdrops can work out a deal with the label to add it to our mailorder catalog... I'll certainly look into this, because otherwise it's probably going to be impossible to find unless you have friends in Hong Kong. | Brant Nelson | 1817 Corinth Ave. #10 | open your eyes | Dewdrops Records | LA, CA 90025-5567 | to northern skies | Uncommon music that deserves to be heard | | http://www.astro.ucla.edu/students/nelson/dewdrops.html Date: Mon, 22 Jul 1996 21:42:08 -0700 From: the mystery parade (tmp@EARTHLINK.NET) Subject: Faye Wong Sings the Cocteau Twins!!! Two "thislisty" Faye Wong CD's: *Random Thinking (1994): has covers of the Cocteau's "Know Who You Are At Every Age" (retitled: "Know Oneself And Each Other") and "Bluebeard" "Dreams" which was featured in her movie debut "Chungking Express" (which was a very good movie, by the way) *Impatience (1996): "Fracture" and "Brooming Happiness" written for her by Cocteau Twins. I thought I'd never live to hear a Cocteau Twins cover, of all things!
