"Love No More" is from a *newer* album, "Vini Reilly", which I think is his masterpiece, a perfect blend of his distinctive guitar playing and sampled vocals used as "colour". This and "The Guitar..." are two of the reissues, the others being "The Return of the Durutti Column" (despite the name, the debut album) and "LC". A further four are due this summer - that will complete the reissue of the Factory albums, "Circuses and Bread" was on Factory Benelux and is now available from Crepuscule. "Are they worth $16?" I'd say "Vini Reilly" is worth selling your grandmother for. TGAOM is probably the most commercial, "rock" DC album, released at about the same time that Vini was playing on Morrissey's first solo album - other albums tend to have fewer tracks with vocals, and are quieter. The recent "Sex and Death" is well worth buying, on Factory Too. -- Andrew Norman, Leicester, England andrew@riverrun.demon.co.uk http://www.riverrun.demon.co.uk/ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 1997 06:29:51 -0600 From: nrbyram@MAIL.UTEXAS.EDU Subject: Re: durruti column query Hey There-- If you liked _The Guitar..._, you should love the album called _Vini Reilly_. It has a similar feel, and the music is (for me) even better. It's MORE than worth the $16. Of the older material that's been re-released so far, I think _LC_ is the best. Personally, I would avoid _Fidelity_ and the soon-to-be-reissued _Obey the Time_. The 2 Italian albums, _Dry_ and _Red Shoes_, are demos and outtakes. Both are decent, but they aren't a good place to start. I'm sure existing fans won't need to be persuaded, but if you haven't heard the DC before, try this one. All the reissues are now available, "The Return of the DC" has a couple of cockups (the tracklisting's fine, the CD isn't - "Beginning" is actually "In D", and "In D" is actually another mix of "Sketch for Winter" which is also on the album in its original form), and "Domo Arigato" has had "Jacqueline" dropped for some reason, but apart from those niggles the reissues are great - "LC" and "Another Setting" are far better- sounding, and they all have extra tracks, many of which even pretty keen fans like me won't have heard before.
