These could be the best two songs he's released yet. Swirling drone that builds into beautiful climaxes. All I can say is that this is beautiful. And to think he does this stuff on a 4-track. "Temple IV" and "Two Trajectories" are the droniest RM, the others (while still having that quality) have a little more structure. "Winter Songs" *is* expensive, but I think it's about half an hour long so it isn't appalling value for money. It and "Scenes..." are well worth getting, "Goodbye" is my least favourite FSA release (and RM only plays on one track, in an excerpt from a live performance). I think FSA lost their way for a while at the end of "phase 1". About half the early albums on Kranky are Roy and his mates in various combinations - Dadamah (experimental post-punk pop, interesting but not very like RM's solo stuff), Dissolve (Roy and Chris Heaphy, the second album "Third Album from the Sun" is another essential purchase), Flies Against the Sun (the other members of Dadamah, if I remember correctly, don't have this one). And a final recommendation - the "four songs" EP, a double 7" with Roy singing four songs from NZ bands he used to be in, quite unlike most of his solo stuff.
