While we're on the subject of "are they still any good, then?": Then
new Frazier Chorus mini album was, uhm, not as bad as expected. Or
rather, it was even worse.

It all began with "Sue", all those years back. A quirky, funny,
melodic and downright nice album. I really love it. Tim Freeman
whispering in my ear about such important subjects as sleeping, drying
hair, living rooms, and kitchens. It's a perfect album for those quiet
nights with a cup of tea and a book.

Then we had "Ray", the Ian Broudie produced album which is where
Virgin tried to make them into Superstars. Not a very good album, but
it had some redeeming qualities -- it made me remember how good "Sue"
was.

EMI bought Virgin and booted FC off the label. The two other people
sacked Tim Freeman, and then disbanded. Tim Freeman then took the name
for himself, and released "Wide Awake" on his own record label.

This album is so inoffensive as to be revolting. Everything is so
*smooth*, so *even*, so... so... extremely boring. It's music you
could play in elevators, and people would just believe it was the
regular muzak. It's... *adult*. It's awful.

And I like it. It has these silences that remind me of the silences of
"Wandering Star" by Portishead, for some reason. There's this certain
intimacy that I can't help be charmed by.

So unless you're totally perverse (like me) or totally without musical
taste (like a Dire Straits fan) you should avoid this album.
