A collective of 9 people from Reykjavik, Iceland. Each person in the band has a speciality all are involved with everything. Photographers, musicians, actors, poets, designers, etc. The collective has already released a few films in their own country. At a later date I will post up their bio and all the members, but you have to wait for now. the first single "Polyeasterday" will be released in the UK on Oct. 7th. The full-length will be released in late March. Book you flight to Iceland, because that is it. Date: Sat, 5 Oct 1996 20:47:27 EDT From: Dez (100702.123@COMPUSERVE.COM) Subject: Gus2 Polydistortion I posted yesterday that I didn't know what was on the second gus gus promo twelve. Now I've got it, I know. Polydistortion is absolutely incredible. it's a remix of Polyesterday, but bears little relation to that track. It's a headtrip slow techno groove that goes on for about a quarter of an hour - and still seems too short. It's gonna be caned in this house, and I suspect in every chill-out room across the length and breadth of this country. Since I still don't have the actual official commercial release, I don't know whether it's included. If not, somebody needs shooting. The other two tracks are Polyesterday itself, different to the LP version (better), and presumably the single, and a very minmal mix of Cold Breath '79. I admit to going overboard in my enthusiasm sometimes, but everything new I hear of Gus Gus is just so damned perfect, I want more and more. Within a year they are going to be the biggest selling 4AD band by an enormous margin, they'll be feted in the dance press in the same way that Underworld are now, and Ivo will have stacks of money pouring in so he can sign more dodgy bands like the Paladins without caring that they'll sell zilch. Oh well, every silver lining has it's cloud. - Dez Date: Tue, 8 Oct 1996 13:35:48 +0200 From: Frank Brinkhuis (frankbri@PI.NET) Subject: Gus Gus/Tanya Donelley This definitely isn't my cup of tea. On 'Polyester Day' Gus Gus sound like 'Pills 'n Thrill's'-era Happy Mondays! Wasn't it Lydia Lunch who said about this sort of music that's just like drinking water, it's so easy! (and it has all been done before) 'Polydistortion' clocks in at 7'50", so I assume it's an edit from the version on the GUS 2 promo 12" version. Oh, the artwork of the 12" is nice. Reminds of those very early posters Benoit Hennebert did for Crepuscule and some of his sleeves for Paul Haig. GUS GUS 'Polyester Day' 12" BAD 6013 A1. Polyester Day A2. Gun (Husmix) B. I don't uderstand this release... there are better single-tracks on their album. Or will 'Polyesterday' be the 'Blue Monday' for gus gus? Can we expect a 'Polyesterday 1999', 'Polyesterday 2000' etc.? I liked the demo-track on Anakin - so please release something new next time ;-) Nice packaging (with those digilock=81 thingies). Date: Sat, 14 Feb 1998 16:21:42 -0500 From: Jeff Keibel Subject: Polyesterday Thanks go out to 4AD Mail Order for the big package containing "Anakin", "Strange Angels" and the new batch of "Polyesterday" singles. The one track common to both CD singles and the 12" is the radio edit of "Polyesterday". The rest of the offerings are exclusive to each format. There is Sasha's remix of "Purple" that is featured on both BAD8002CD and BAD8002 (the 12") but it should be noted that the CD version is the edit while the vinyl one is the long version. Upon closer inspection, it is revealed that the run out groove on the B side of the 12" (with the "Purple" Sasha remix) states "gus12a = bad8002b". The CD singles themselves showcase yet another new type of digipack, this one requires you press the button in the center of the digipack plastic holder to release the CD. The music is good stuff! Since the remixers attacked this material which we are all familiar with in a radical way it sounds fresh and new to these ears. It's a fine batch of remixes, especially "Gun" and "Why?" from BAD8002CD.
