Has > already been released in the UK? Well...word from Kranky is that the holdup was last week (release date was Oct. 7), so it should be in stores tomorrow. I have to admit that I'm skeptical about this, since Kranky always seems to have things out a bit late. Anyway, I got to hear a promo version of "Songs for a Dead Pilot" this weekend, and it is absolutely wonderful. The re-recorded version of "Be There" has a wurlitzer and a hear-beat type drum beat...sounds a bit like Labradford! "Will The Night" is a drone-fest with Alan singing beneath the washes of sound from way in the distance. "Born by the Wires" is powerful, sparse, and echo-y. "Condensed" includes a cello (or viola, I can't quite tell) and is just gorgeous. The other tracks are equally wonderful, but these are my favorites. Here's the details (as I remember them, I don't have this in front of me): Low - Songs for a Dead Pilot (krank 21) 1. Will The Night 2. Condensed 3. Born By The Wires 4. Be There 5. Landlord 6. Hey Chicago approx. 35 minutes. This too is just swell. A bit more experimental than usual, including an almost ambient opening track, but nothing that wouldn't be recognized as Low.
