How do they sound, compared to > Motion Pool or Firmament II? More abstract even than Firmament II, for the most part. Sometimes there's almost a song there, but the "singles" are mostly rustling, scraping, droning, rattling etc. Which doesn't mean that they are bad, far from it, but they are very much an acquired taste. There's very little of the more structured "Motion Pool" type of sound. Robert's "Indicate" project with Jim O'Rourke takes the abstraction to a further extreme, to the point where (for me at least) it is uninteresting and unlistenable (as is Main's contribution to the "Folds and Rhizomes" compilation, which is little more than a collection of crackling sounds and silence). The Orr collaboration with Wire's Gilbert and Paul Kendall sounds more like "Motion Pool" (judging by the one track I have heard). -- Andrew Norman, Leicester, England 28/06/96 nja@le.ac.uk, http://www.engg.le.ac.uk/staff/Andrew.Norman/ The Fall
