I'm curious to hear a $description of Nurse with Wound. What do they sound like? I see they $have a new album out-- a piecing together of outtakes from the previous $albums? far from it! NWW has been putting out records since around 1978 or so, when their first release, "chance meeting ..." was issued. for some reason they're often called industrial, possibly because of the often dark sounds of their music, but it's really nothing you could dance to. NWW is now only stephen stapleton working by himself (although there are often collaborators). the music is dark, somewhat ambient, with a lot of interesting sounds as texture. if you like this heat, you would proably like NWW. i'm by no means an expert, but i would recommend "sugar fish drink" as a good starting point. there's also a really good interview in an issue of the wire from like last year or maybe two years ago -- i think stapleton describes his music as "surrealist," which is about the best i can do. -john Date: Mon, 31 Aug 1998 16:20:38 -0400 From: Jon Whitney Subject: Re: Nurse with Wound If you wanna talk about being broke collecting a band, try Nurse With Wound. There is a quite detailed web site at www.brainwashed.com/nww which was started by Jeff Reid years ago, semi-abandoned and adopted by brainwashed. The site has loads of info on all the releases, and there are some sound samples available. As for describing the music, it can be surrealistic, dadaistic, rhythmic or non-rhythmic, atonal, sick, disgusting, rude, as well as beautiful. It can be cut-up or flowing, and there's no two records which sound alike. If you like the Simple Headphone Mind release, you'll probably enjoy the more recent material, I recommend the limited edition 2CD set called "Second Pirate Session" which includes "Rock'n Roll Station" plus outtakes from those recordings. You'll hear some of the same sound effects used in Simple Headphone Mind as well. Another recent release you might enjoy is "Who Can I Turn To Stereo", another 'rhythmic' release from NWW. The music on that disc sort of expands on the 'Two Golden Microphones' theme from "Rock'n Roll Station". The most recent disc of all new material, "Acts of Senseless Beauty" is wonderful, but is by no means similar to any of the material I suggested, there are no rhythms (except for the 'hidden track' placed minutes after the last song ends) for the pieces and there's a violin player throughout much of the droney soundscapes. I hope this helps.
