(a public service announcement) In a moment of clarity that can only be attributed to the reviewer of 'In a Doghouse' and "Is this Desire?' being off sick, the NME last week selected the Friendly Science Orchestra's 'Miniature Album' as Single of the Week! Friendly Scientist Ian Masters' (ex-Pale Saints, Spoonfed Hybrid) latest release was the worthy recipient of gushing praise from the reviewer, who at one point excitedly remarked: "Not only does it contain more invention than any other record this week, it also harks back to a longer tradition of electro-experimentation, starting with Joe Meek in the late '50's / early '60s and threading all the way through to Stereolab today." As if this wasn't enough, I might add that the label design features a rather dashing photograph of my father from 1970, whose wry grin offers a small hint at the musical delights to come... a partial track listing : Duet for Musical Saw / Naked 19 / The Queen of Sleep / Richard Gere, Friend of Dilemna / I Go Chewy / I Don't Know How to Be a Girl / Dim of Tiny Station / Sutakina Sora O / Smile in Your Pocket / A Little Bit of Cheese The miniature album, and indeed all previous Friendly Science recordings, is available at www.dfuse.com/spoons/index.html. All orders mentioning the phrase "Didn't say Uno!*" will undoubtedly receive some additional tidbit. Thanks, Timothy * obscure reference to the card game Uno, which Ian consistently kicks my ass at. Curses!
