Something in the change of style/ instrumentation/ production from her first two albums has lost me in the translation; it doesn't yank me to my feet and slap me in the face the way "Dress" or "Man-Sized" or "Easy" do. To go into a bit more detail: She's no longer using her backup band, rather a variety of musicians on different tracks, and the instruments are more varied. The songs are more subtle, less intense than before. There aren't many of those great Cap'n Beefheart-style twisted guitar lines. I won't say she's going downhill artistically, just that her current style doesn't interest me as much as the older stuff did.
