Date: Sat, 6 Sep 1997 10:52:20 -0400 From: Jeff Keibel Subject: Richenel Ivo liked Richenel so much he licensed "L'Esclave Endormi" (which translates to 'the free slave' apparently) from MegaDisc Belgium, home Buffalo Tom. "L'Esclave Endormi" was 4AD's first release of 1986 in January and came out as BAD601 on 12". Two versions of the song are featured including a beautiful extended remix by Ivo himself! Of course, Ivo used Richenel again for his second This Mortal Coil album "Filigree & Shadow" which followed nine months later. Afterwards, Richenel released a 12" single on CBS (now Sony) UK as 6502149 in early 1987 called "Dance Around the World" which features two different mixes. Does anyone else have some Richenel info?? I dearly loved L'Esclave Endormi, but really didn't like this LP at all. (BTW, it was discounted from its original $12.19 purchase price to $2.99 by the time I bought it, so that may tell you something.) On the back of the LP, in the "My special thanks to:" section, among other things, it states..."Ivo Watts-Russell and John Fryer for making l'Esclave Endormi immortal, thank you 4AD." Some really bad dance tracks. There might only be one other release circa 1989/90. Andrew Date: Wed, 2 Jul 1997 11:25:26 -0700 From: Michael Scholtz Subject: richenel, for against, etc. the only other richenel record i've heard or seen is a lame overproduced pop LP, which if memory serves was released by one of the majors (polygram?) in france. it's rare, but it sucks. if any of you really are interested, i think i have a copy out in the "discard" pile, so make me an offer. oh wait, i can't say that -- i've got to write up some rules so the capitalist profiteers won't exploit the artists and everyone plays nice ... maybe later. for against's "echelons", the band's first album (issued circa 1987), is a bit more pretentious than its subsequent work. there are two different packages with the same musical content: an ipr letterpress sleeve, and the regular printed version. a few years back ipr also put out a 10" of early demo's, "in the marshes", which also had a really spiffy sleeve -- part of the 'archive' ltd. ed. series. i don't believe that either of these have been reissued on cd to date. am i the only person on this list going to 'warped'? no germans, belgians, or latvians, but millencolin from sweden will play. are we off the topic yet? herr scholtz
