Indeed, Seely are quite good. As the guitarist Lori and I have a mutual friend, I have heard that there is a new member of the band, (although I don't remember his name) and it sounds as if he is adding some sort of background loop or trip-hop beats or something somewhat unexpected, but I've been told the result is quite satisfying. Some demos for the next album have already been recorded, but alas, I have not heard them yet. > Someone on the pure-impure list mentioned that the promo copies of the > Seely CD were "truncated". Does anyone know how they differ from the > official release? I haven't seen the promo issue, but the official release is a good 14 tracks or so, although 5 or so are listed as bonus or additional. Incidentally, much of the material on Julie Only was originally released locally on an album called Parentha See, but since they were not able to negotiate with the folks behind that album to have it released by Too Pure, they simply re-recorded the songs for their Too Pure release. And for the most part, the latter versions are superior. ŒAbout 2 new songs were added as well. > If there are any listies present from Atlanta, I'd > also be curious to know how they fit into the local music scene, which is > distinctly non-Seelyish. Are the locals even aware of their presence? I'm not especially knowledgeable of the local scene, but Seely does still occassionally play in darn small venues here, and are usually an opening band. Hopefully that will change soon. I know that they are friendly with other bands in the area, but I don't think that their music is akin to much else I've heard. -greg Date: Wed, 3 Sep 1997 09:22:28 -0400 From: Greg Smith Subject: Seely is back for Seconds Hi. I just thought some people would be interested to know that Seely (Too Pure's sole American signing) has a new cds/7" out called Soft City with 4 new tracks. Their eagerly awaited new album will be released somewhere around October 5th, and I believe the title is Seconds. They had a release party show for the Soft City ep, and they've got some great new songs. Check 'em out. you know you want to. -greg Date: Tue, 15 Sep 1998 13:44:08 +0100 From: nja@LEICESTER.AC.UK Subject: Re: seely Wilder Gonzales wrote on Mon, 14 Sep 1998 (Subject: Re: seely) > I've read fuxa saying the 2nd seely LP was great. "Seconds" really is very good - takes the semi-digested sound of the first album and blends it into something which is more than just the product of a good record collection. Not that I thought the first album was bad, but the second one is far superior.
