As the title suggests, there is sampling a plenty - radiators, lawnmowers and all kind of metallic clunking. But this isn't wilful experimentation for the hell of it. Everything fits together in a percussive force, that still finds plenty of time for stretches of blissful melancholy. If you need pointers, then Autechre's Tri Repetae is a pretty close place to start. But this is probably a little less minimalistic, and for the most part the tracks are pretty short - 16 in just over an hour. It's not easy to pick out highlights in an LP which is more or less one long highlight. Superb. Fraser/Guthrie/Raymonde (whoever they may be) that samples extensively from a Cocteaus track, but I couldn't say which one not being a fan. - Dez
