I received both the new Throwing Muses releases from Rycodisk today! (they're faster than they say they are...) The six live-at-the-studio recordings on "Live to Tape" (VRCD 0354) are very good. Kristin is introducing every track by saying it's title... No hand-clapping between the songs. I hope they will release more bootlegs like this. This record has no sleeve - just a plastic+white paper envelope with a small blue - girl with a rope - sticker to close the thing. Total playing time: 22.09 (but you can play it more than one time) The extra tracks on the Freeloader cd are worth buying the record for, I like the 'Live Remix' version of "Take"... Does anybody know why 4AD isn't releasing this one? Date: Sun, 19 Jan 1997 11:04:14 +0200 From: Freeloader (efdee@LUNA.NL) Subject: Happy New Year From Throwing Muses I just received this message from throwingmuses@throwingmusic.com... Kick off the New Year with two soon to be coveted Throwing Muses releases. FREELOADER (RCD5 1055), the follow-up EP to Throwing Muses' critically acclaimed album LIMBO (RCD/RAC 10354), makes its way into stores January 21. And to tide you over until you can see them live again, Rykodisc and Throwing Music also present a special online sale of Throwing Muses' LIVE TO TAPE EP. The promotional-only six-track LIVE TO TAPE EP captures the essence of Throwing Muses' high energy live in-studio performance and will be available for a limited time only via the Rykodisc and Throwing Music web sites (www.rykodisc.com and www.throwingmusic.com). Recorded live to 2-track at Stable Sound, in Portsmouth, Rhode Island in August 1996, the six songs, "Shark," "Ruthie's Knocking," "Night Driving," "Serene," "Bright Yellow Gun," and "Bea," draw from different eras of Throwing Muses' career. LIVE TO TAPE was originally intended for promotional-only use by 4AD UK. 4AD offered "virtual" radio sessions to local BBC stations that wouldn't otherwise have the opportunity to broadcast an in-studio Throwing Muses performance. The EP was also sent to select college radio stations in the USA in November 1996. These stripped-down and electrified versions of old and new songs reflect the strength of Throwing Muses' live set. Songs like "Shark and "Bea" ring with the same buzzing intensity that infuse the band live, and the usually serene "Serene" is unleashed with new vigor on this plugged-in version. The FREELOADER EP features the bonus tracks "If" (a Latin Playboys cover), "Take" (a cool live remix) and a really sweet Muses-style lullaby, "Heel Toe". A generous portion of Muses collectibilia, FREELOADER celebrates the lauded Rykodisc/Throwing Music debut LIMBO, described by Rolling Stone as "too compelling to go unnoticed" and by Option as a "proud moment for freethinkers everywhere." This release is available only at www.rykodisc.com or www.throwingmusic.com, or through Earful (1-800-2-EARFUL / 1-800-232-7385) for the very affordable price of $4.98 plus $1.50 shipping & handling (a little more for fans overseas).
