As part of Beggars Banquet's reissue program, all Tones On Tail material is being collected on a two-disc set called "Everything". Out in April and with the BEGA200CD catalogue number, this is a must for rabid 4AD collectors who have yet to hear the full BAD203 on CD. This Is The Pops; You, The Night And The Music; When You're Smiling; There's Only One; Now We Lustre; A Bigger Splash (BAD203); Copper (BAD203); Means Of Escape (BAD203); Instrumental (BAD203); Performance (7" version); Shakes; & Heartbreak Hotel (live). from www.beggars.com JEFF KEIBEL TORONTO, ONTARIO CANADA Date: Thu, 19 Feb 1998 22:45:25 -0600 From: AudioPig Subject: Re: Tones on Tail > Doesn't the "Everything" represent the third or fourth alegedly > comprehensive retrospective of this band? hmmm...i believe this will be the fourth one really, but certainly the *most* comprehensive so far - looks like it's all on there, guess the only other thing we could hope for would be some unreleased tracks (woo woo!) and/or livestuff (like a nicely mastered version of the show that "heartbreak hotel" came from). the second compilation "night music" (beggars/PVC) was a good overview and a balance of single & album tracks + and "heartbreak hotel"...this one's still pretty widely available, though dunno if it's really in print. the third, "tones on tail" on beggars banquet (US only?) was certainly a fine comp and had more of the "Pop" album tracks like "performance" and "slender fungus". neither of these, though, included any of the BAD203 tracks. the first (1985) ToT comp/mini-album i know of was one released by situation 2 that collected three singles (BAD203, "there's only one" & "burning skies") but that one is exceptionally scarce at this point and anyway never pressed on cd. so actually, take these three compilations and squeeze them together tightly, remove the overlapping bits, add the "performance/shakes" single, and you have the "everything" 2cd which is mighty mighty fine by me - really glad to see this released. hurrah!
