It is utter shit. I bought it at Tower (thank god for return policies) and yes it was a pretty awful listen. I tried and tried and tried to like it but found it so silly and embarrassingly ridiculous. It was the first Oval release I purchased and it kept me from buying ANY of their other stuff until just last week. I finally picked up Diskont- and while it didn't make my top 5ive it is pretty beautiful. Reminds me of the sweeping emotion evoked in Underworld's "sececondtoughestintheenfants" I do have to admit that I am still a little confused when I listen to Diskont whether all that bleeping is my damn CD player - bet then I realizes its Oval making a beat with disc skip noises. I hope I'm right. > I'd be interested in hearing a description of the cd's contents. > are there any instrumentals of note on it, and how old is it? Can't remember much but the vocals really were just terrible. Enough to cloud my memory of any of the instumentals. Diskont does come in the pretty green package and is also a = nice listen. A bit unsatisfying for the beat inclined and not quite = the spookiness of Microstoria's bleeps and flickers. Markus Popp is quite a looker. :) Date: Mon, 18 May 1998 15:19:39 -0400 From: B BRACKEN Subject: Re: Oval/Mouse on Mars On Mon, 18 May 1998, Ryan Hicks wrote: > Oval-Dok. Brilliance. Flicker flicker. Dok is wonderful, but a departure from ovals work conditions, with very pleasing results...check out christoph charles' solo work, cd on Mille Plateaux "undirected" that is stunning, with the intent to let you modify the random encounters with sounds...Charles provided the sound sources for most of the "dok" release...Diskont is exactly like its cover, found systems...beauty...if you can manage to find the lp version there is a great 12" with tracks remixed by jim o'rourke, scanner, mouse on mars, and christian vogel...all wonderful... check out microstoria as well, esp if you liked the last oval...
