Constellated and Consumated, Then Stewart Arentzen--guitar Dale Lloyd--bass, keymonica, tape I've listened to the first disc so far...it sure is nice to hear Gordon again. The packaging is attempting something great...but, well...it comes with these little postcard like things and a spine card, but the spine card isn't attached and the postcards are too long to fit in the CD jewel box, so you end up with about five delicate things that require special attention. Oh, it also has a CD condom that fits too tightly with the postcards and CD stuffed inside it, so you have to be extra carful pulling out the CD--like Lanterna. Look at me bitching about insipid things, with all these lovely people on the CD. Bad Delaney, bad. Are the Gordon Sharp songs new recordings or or previously unreleased material? I think the Gorden Sharp songs are new recordings and have little to do with Gordon Sharp's Cindytalk. He may have just been asked to be vocalist and agreed. 2. Who is this guy (sorry can't remember his name offhand!) that provides eletronic noise on every track? He seems to be the driving force behind the album. The directors of After the Flood are Clark von Trotha, Dale Lloyd, Stuart Arentzen (from Lucid) and Marc Olsen. I think it is supposed to change musicians each incarnation like This Mortal Coil (few of the musicians on the new one are on the previous album). 3. Was there an After the Flood 1, and if so, who was on it? Yes, and it is a great album. I found out about it from AP who compared it to 4AD. The new album is more produced, but the first album is great. If you like that, check out Lucid too. There are a ton of musicians on the first album and few that carry over to the new album. Basically, the only ones remaining are the directors I mentioned above. I heard somewhere that the first album took over 10 years to make. The credits only say 5 years. It took me a long time to find that CD so I don't know how many are out there. ae is the label. 4. Why wasn't this just a regular cindytalk release (a more appropriate title would have been "Gordon Sharp's Creep-fest"). Again, I don't think Sharp had much to do other than vocalize. Since After the Flood seems to have a TMC fixation (not a bad thing), that is probably why he was brought on board. He has nothing to do with the first album either. BTW, the vocalists are much more varied and etherial on the first album. Date: Sun, 9 Aug 1998 10:06:04 -0500 From: Doubts About Waking Subject: After Flood 2 ?'s & comms. My thoughts on this in general....I agree it's a mistake to see this as basically a Gordon Sharp affair. All he does is some vocals on 4 out of 20 tracks. Unfortunately, the first of those 4 is possibly the weakest on the album, although "Follow Sun Ra" more than makes up for it. I listen to the Instrumental cd more often--it's more consistent in term of quality. In fact, it's quite fantastic and a great introduction to those unfamiliar with some of the "home recording/lo-fi" bands involved. I personally would have liked a little more Flying Saucer Attack-style feedback, but that's just a question of personal taste. I also don't really see the comparisons to the This Mortal Coil albums in terms of sound on either this album or the first _After the Flood_. It would kind of be like saying TMC was just the British version of the American _Rainy Day_ project. In other words, it's unfair to both and sells them short. Also, someone asked if this was a necessity for HNIA fans--it probably isn't, but it's still a great record. Miles better than the first one. Nesh Byram
