Could the same somebody (or another somebody) post > an annotated discog, with short descriptions of what one must buy at > once, and what one can wait until one has money to buy? Here's the discography that was posted a couple of weeks ago. I have a fair amount of it, and I've annotated it accordingly: > > PURE 1 VARIOUS ARTISTS "NOW THAT'S DISGUSTING MUSIC" > (LIVE AT THE SAUSAGE MACHINE) Featuring: Snuff, Silverfish, > Mega City 4, Heartthrobs, Th' Faith Healers, Sun Carriage, Honey > Smugglers, Unbelievers... (10") On the "Switched On" compilation - the compilation is an essential purchase. > PURE 5 P.J. HARVEY DRESS E.P. (12"/CD) This, and the "Sheela-na-gig" single, have demos of songs which have since appeared on the albums. Worth getting if you are a PJH fan. > PURE 6 TH' FAITH HEALERS IN LOVE EP (12") OUT OF STOCK > PURE 8 P.J. HARVEY SHEELA-NA-GIG E.P. (12"/CD) > PURE 9 MOONSHAKE SECOND HAND CLOTHES (12"/CD) I'm not over-keen on Moonshake. To quote one of Leonard Cohen's record company people, "we know you're great, we just don't know if you are any good". > PURE 10 P.J. HARVEY DRY (LP/CD/MC) Amazing. I have the limited version with the demos on it, this is definitely the best thing Too Pure have put out, and that is saying something. > PURE 11 STEREOLAB PENG! (LP/CD/MC) Good album, but buy "Switched On" first. Where's that compilation of recent Stereolab stuff that they were supposed to be putting out? > PURE 12 TH' FAITH HEALERS LIDO (LP/CD/MC) > PURE 13 MOONSHAKE BEAUTIFUL PIGEON (12"/CD) > PURE 14 STEREOLAB LOW-FI (10"/CD) Great stuff, almost a mini-album. > PURE 15 TH' FAITH HEALERS MR LITNANSKI (12"/CD) > PURE 16 MOONSHAKE EVA LUNA (LP/CD) > PURE 17 PRAM IRON LUNG (12"/CD)12" SOLD OUT I'm still looking for this one - see below. > PURE 19 STEREOLAB SPACE AGE BACHELOR..(MINILP/CD) I like this, most people seem not to. Experimental bleepy stuff. > PURE 20 SEEFEEL MORE LIKE SPACE EP (12"/CD) Seefeel are wonderful. > PURE 21 VOODOO QUEENS SUPERMODEL-SUPERFICIAL (7") Not bad, but the concept is better than the execution. If you like shouty girl-punk feminism, this is for you. > PURE 22 MOONSHAKE BIG GOOD ANGEL (MINI LP/CD) More palatable than the earlier releases. > PURE 23 SEEFEEL PLAINSONG (12") > PURE 24 VOODOO QUEENS KENUWEE HEAD (10"/7"/CD) CD has the earlier single as well. > PURE 25 SEEFEEL/APHEX TWIN REMIXES (12") > PURECD25 SEEFEEL PURE, IMPURE (MINI CD)Pure 23&25 A good place to start. > PURE 26 PRAM THE STARS ARE SO BIG... (LP/CD) Intriguing album of jazz/punk/pop type stuff. I love it, but it could grate on your nerves if you aren't into that sort of thing. > PURE 27 TH' FAITH HEALERS IMAGINARY FRIEND (LP/CD) > PURE 28 SEEFEEL QUIQUE (DOUBLE LP/1CD) Lovely. > PURE 30 VOODOO QUEENS CHOCOLATE REVENGE (LP/CD) > PURE 31 MOUSE ON MARS FROSCH (12"/CD) Can/Kraftwerk collision, splendid. > PURE 32 MINXUS STEAL STEAL STEAL (7") Not all that special. > PURE 33 MOONSHAKE SOUND YOUR EYES CAN...(LP/CD) See quote about Leonard Cohen above. I listened to this again over the weekend, I admire it but I'm not sure I like it very much. > PURE 34 VARIOUS POP (DO WE NOT LIKE THAT?) > Featuring 1 track from each of the following: Stereolab, P.J. Harvey, Th' > Faith Healers, Moonshake, Pram, Seefeel, Voodoo Queens, Mouse on Mars, > Minxus and Laika (LP/CD) Great compilation, all the label's bands so you get a taste of everything. > PURE 35 PRAM MESHES E.P. (EP/CD) Again, lovely stuff if that's what rings your bell. > PURE 36 MOUSE ON MARS VULVALAND (LP/CD) Mellower than the single, one of the best albums of recent months as far as I'm concerned. Electronic squiggles and noise, "Chagrin" is extremely sexy. > PURE 37 VOODOO QUEENS F IS FOR FAME (7"/CD) > PURE 38 LAIKA ANTENNA E.P. (12"/CD) Haven't got either of these two - Voodoo Queens because I can't be bothered (they have an album of Peel sessions out as well), Laika because I can't find the bugger, despite weeks of looking - it should have been out about a month ago. As you can see, I don't know anything about Th'Faith Healers apart from a few compilation tracks (the Peel Sessions album with Stereolab & PJH is excellent, as well), and I'm not too keen on Moonshake although I can see why some people rave over them. In short, the essential purchases are: P J Harvey - Dry Stereolab - Switched On (I think this is strictly a Duophonic release which Too Pure distribute) Mouse on Mars - Vulvaland Seefeel - Quique or Pure, Impure Pop (Do We Not Like That). -- Andrew Norman, Leicester, England | Jedermann sein eigner Fussball nja@le.ac.uk |
