So anyone remember me mailing the list and telling everyone that my flatmate had read an article which said Vaughan was leaving 4AD? It was quite a while ago and no-one backed me up on it and then my flatmate never found the article again - till tonight.... I haven't actually had chance to read it all myself, and I'm too tired to do it now, but the headline(s) of the article are thus: ---------------- V23 LEAVES 4AD After 17 years Vaughan Oliver and his studio, v23, are moving on - a new Pixies promotional video, Oliver's directorial debut, marks the new direction... --------------- This is from "Computer Arts" Issue 14, January 1998 (page 14). At the end of the article it says "For a recoup on Vaughan Oliver's career to date, and an update on the new direction for v23, look out for the full profile in Computer Arts issue 16, on sale 26th February 1998." Okay? So I didn't make it up and neither did my flatmate Craig. If I get chance tomorrow I'll try and scan the (single) page and put it up somewhere on the Art School's server and then mail the URL to the 4AD-L. I'm really sorry but I haven't a clue how to use TextBridge (if we have it), and if I don't do it tomorrow it's coz I'm busy at an auction trying to buy me an SGI Indie, but I promise I'll do it next week. Ciao amigos. Date: Mon, 6 Apr 1998 08:03:42 +0000 From: Rich Holtzman Subject: v23 an end to all rumors. v23 is still working with 4AD. Vaughan, Chris, and Timothy are simply moving into their own space. They will continue to work on 4AD material and they will continue to do their own outside work. Over the years as the popularity of v23 grew so has the amount of work they have done on the outside. that's it rich Date: Mon, 9 Nov 1998 15:49:17 +0000 From: Andrew Massey Subject: From Creative Review, November 1998 "Despite splitting from record label 4AD recently, Vaughan Oliver and Chris Bigg's V23 studio continues to create beautiful, ethereal CD covers: 12 Rounds' Pleasant Smell (shown) is due out at Christmas. Oliver and Bigg had to leave the in-house studio at 4AD after the company was forced to "downsize", although Oliver had always worked there on a freelance basis. Now set up on its own, V23 is working on books, CDs and, showing there's no hard feelings, a 4AD catalogue." ... so there you go.
