World: Asia: Nara

Japanese town, est. pop. 32,000 and once capital of Japan in 709-784 A.D. Famous for art specimens preseved for neary 1,200 years in a storehouse near Nara called the Shoso-in.


ILLU: Baron Gruner tested the chinese ceramics knowledge of "Dr. Hill Barton" (Watson) by questioning: "do you know of the Emperor Shomu and how do you associate him with the Shoso-in near Nara?"
