Town in eastern Berkshire, on the right bank of the Thames. Pop. 14,130 [1901]. Windsor Castle is the famous residence of English sovereigns since the Saxons, and a favorite of Queen Victoria. [JT]


BRUC: Some weeks after the conclusion of this adventure, Holmes spent a day at Windsor, where he received a gift of an emerald tie-pin from "a certain gracious lady."
